Beckenbauer believes the Italy international could be the answer to Bayern’s woes.
Toni, a World Cup winner with the Azzurri last year, was the top scorer in Europe last season with 31 Serie A goals.
He has also netted 16 times this season to ease Viola into European contention, but he is rumoured to be considering a move away from Florence in the summer.
Beckenbauer told Gazzetta dello Sport: “Toni guarantees goals. He has character, helps the team and is a special guy.
“I really hope he will join us.”
Juventus and recently-crowned Scudetto champions Internazionale have also been linked with a move for the giant striker, and Beckenbauer admits it would a tall order to prise the 29-year-old away from his homeland.
When asked if Bayern could entice Toni to the Allianz Arena, Beckenbauer replied: “I don’t know. I can only say that Bayern needs new blood. Not only Toni, but building a new squad around him.”
Tests have confirmed that the 33-year-old Frenchman suffered ligament damage in his right knee during Sunday’s Primera Liga match against Gimnastic Tarragona, and he is now set to be sidelined for at least two months.
That means the former Arsenal man will play no further part in the current La Liga campaign, which has six games to go.
