Substantial increase of the amount distributed to the participating teams
UEFA today announced the financial distribution scheme for the participating teams of the Final Tournament of the UEFA European Football Championship 2008â„¢ to be held in Austria/Switzerland from 7 to 29 June 2008.
An amount of 184 million euros has been earmarked for the sixteen teams which will compete for the crown of European Champions next summer, compared to 129 million euros (200 million CHF) at UEFA EURO 2004â„¢.
All sixteen teams will receive a participating fee of 7.5 million euros. During the Group Phase there are also performance bonuses of 1 million euros for a win and 500,000 euros for a draw.
Once UEFA EURO 2008â„¢ enters its knockout phase, there are no performance bonuses any more. Instead, the eight quarter-finalists will receive an additional payment of 2 million euros. The financial prize for reaching the semi-finals is an extra payment of 3 million euros.
And, for the teams who take the field for the final at the Ernst-Happel Stadion on 29 June, there will be a reward of 4.5 million euros for the runner-up, while the 2008 European Champions will receive 7.5 million euros.
It means that, if the winner in Vienna has won all three of their group matches, the total prize money gained will amount to 23 million euros.
