FC Sevilla goalkeeper Andres Palop, European champion with Spain National Football Team in 2008, signed Monday a contract for one season with the German team Bayer Leverkusen as announced the official site of UEFA.
“I am happy that I will begin a new experience abroad, after a career spent in Spain. Bundesliga is one of the strongest leagues and gather players from all over Europe. Leverkusen is an important club in Germany, and the fact that will play next season in Champions League attracted me very much, “said Palop.
Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller said that Palop will be the second choice in the starting line-up: “After the departure of Michael Rensing I have looked an experienced goalkeeper to be a replacement for Bernd Leno. I found this keeper in person of Andres Palop.”
Andres Palop, aged 39, has won two consecutive UEFA Cup with FC Sevilla in 2006 and 2007 and has also played in his career at FC Valencia and Villarreal.
