Rafa Benitez, the new manager of Napoli wants the Uruguayan striker to stay with the team, even if Chelsea and Real Madrid are getting closer to a transfer. Cavani will not leave for less than € 63 million – the value of the buyout clause.
Chelsea and Real are more interested in signing the striker, featuring more generous offers. But none of the two teams did not propose an amount that reaches the buyout clause which is in his agreement with the football grouping from the Serie A.
Both the new coach and the president Aurelio De Laurentiis, not willing to go down the price. So, any club who would like to get the signature of the 26 year old striker, knows what to do: to pay the buyout clause.
“Neither I nor the president want Cavani to leave because he’s a very important player for us,” said Benitez for Radio Marca.
“Of course, he was a clause which none of us can control. But the president and I want him to stay and continue to grow at Napoli. He has become famous with this club and he can achieve even more in a team and with fans who worship him.”
“Napoli don’t need money. If he leaves, it will be for his clause, which is a very high amount. But our intention is that he stays with the team. Neither the president nor I are proposing that we have to sell Cavani, only to strengthen the team so that Cavani can be even more important. I am aware that there have been offers, but there is a clause and if they want the player, they will have to pay it.”
Edinson Cavani is currently with the Uruguay national team at the Confederations Cup, where is preparing for the match against Brazil in the semifinals of the competition which will be held today, June 26 at 21:00 CET.
