After the first round of matches in the Champions League led to the main surprise of the 2013-2014 season, defeating Chelsea 2-1 in London, FC Basel no longer shown the same determination in the game on Tuesday evening.

The Swiss lost with Schalke at their home ground, final score 0-1, the only goal being scored by Draxler after 54 minutes. After the game, the hosts coach Murat Yakin admitted that the Germans were better than his team.

“We tried to play our game, but our opponents were too strong today. We had accuracy problems in the final passes. Players in attack failed to score. Expectations were high before the match, but we are always under pressure, not that was the problem, “said Yakin to reporters.

“We tried everything, but it was not to be. Normally every time we manage to score a goal, but today we lacked the element of surprise and things just did not work. I’m disappointed because it was a balanced game and a draw would have been a fair result. But in the Champions League you are punished for the smallest mistakes,” added Basel tactician.

On the other hand, Schalke 04 coach Jens Keller was pleased with the success of his footballers, and the team is in first place in a group which also includes Chelsea and Steaua Bucharest.

“The whole team has fought with courage and worked hard. That’s why in the end the victory is deserved. We are happy that we won, with a very positive development in front of quality opponents. I had a game plan against FC Basel, and because of my players’ discipline have not allowed the opponents to have great opportunities,” Keller said after the game.
